Fuel level makes a difference

Ethanol burners work differently from gas, the flame height is directly related to how much fuel is in the burner. When the burner is filled closer to the maximum fill line, there is more fuel available to burn, so the flame will look fuller and taller. As the fuel level drops, the flame naturally becomes lower and less intense.

If you're looking for a more visible flame, make sure the burner is adequately filled, but never above the maximum fill line marked on your burner. Overfilling is a safety hazard.

Give it a few minutes to warm up

Right after lighting, the flame may look small or unimpressive. This is completely normal. Ethanol needs a few minutes to warm up, and the flame will grow to its normal height once the burner reaches operating temperature. If you've only just lit the burner, wait a few minutes before deciding whether the flame is underperforming.

Are you using e-NRG bioethanol?

Fuel type has a significant effect on flame appearance. EcoSmart burners are designed to be used exclusively with e-NRG bioethanol, which is specifically formulated to produce a bright, visible flame. Other bioethanol fuels may produce a weaker or less visible flame, even if they appear similar on the label. If you're using a different brand of bioethanol, this is the most likely cause of a disappointing flame.

If your burner has an XL burner fitted

The baffles in XL burners are designed to stabilise the flame and improve efficiency. Removing them can increase flame movement and perceived height, but any changes should be made in line with the EcoSmart installation and operation instructions for your specific model.
